TB activists at world conference boo Indian minister off stage

Activists booed an Indian official off the stage at the Union World Conference on Lung Health in Paris last week in protest at the lack of availability and poor quality of antituberculosis drugs in India.

Chandra Kishore Mishra, an additional secretary in India's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, was set to deliver his lecture titled "MDR/XDR-TB [multidrug resistant and extensively multidrug resistant tuberculosis] a real threat in India?" when he was interrupted by activists who stormed the stage blowing whistles and shouting slogans.
